I love the way hearing a car outside in the middle of the night makes me feel. Excited, but cosy and safe. Is it instinctive? Is that how people feel when they hear a wild animal snuffling around outside their camp?
Maybe it's because of childhood memories of waking up in the small hours to be bundled into the car amid hurried whispering, before driving off in the dark to get to an airport and a flight. Where are they going?
