Jordan day 2: Kerak

The last stop of the day was the famous Crusader castle, Kerak. Unfortunately, we didn't know anything at all about it before we went, so at the time it seemed like... just another castle. And frankly, I've seen better castles. Luckily Ibrahim, our guide, provided some historical anecdotes which while not particularly informative were nevertheless entertaining.

Apparently I have to include people in my pictures.

The dining hall. The Queen (? a queen...) asked Saladin to stop attacking the castle while her daughter's wedding party went on in here. He agreed, then resumed attacking as soon as the feast was over.

One of the tunnels beneath the castle. The kids in the group were pretty confused due to Ibrahim's pronunciation, and wondered why there were '57 toenails' under the castle. They were however amused to hear the floors of the tunnels were covered with 'wooden dicks'. As Ibrahim said, it was thanks to these tunnels that some guy was able to 'famously shout' "Fuck you, Mongolians!"
